Billing is the most common reason consumers contact AVG support. Here are the most frequent billing issues and how to resolve them.
Most unexpected AVG charges are auto-renewal charges. Log in to my.avg.com and check My Subscriptions to confirm. If you did not intend to renew, contact AVG support at support.avg.com to request a refund.
If you see two identical charges from AVG, submit a billing ticket at support.avg.com with both transaction references. AVG will investigate and refund the duplicate charge.
Gather your cancellation confirmation email and the charge date. Submit a billing dispute at support.avg.com. If AVG does not resolve it, contact your bank to dispute the charge.
AVG offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on most products purchased directly from avg.com. Submit your refund request through support.avg.com within 30 days of purchase.
AVG subscriptions renew automatically each year. To stop future charges, turn off auto-renewal in My Subscriptions at my.avg.com before your renewal date.
To change the card used for renewals, sign in to my.avg.com, go to My Subscriptions, select the plan, and click Manage payment to update your card details.
Follow these steps to install AVG on your device. The process is the same for AVG AntiVirus Free and paid products.
Go to avg.com/download and click Download Free or Download for your paid product. Save the installer file to your computer.
Double-click the downloaded file. If Windows asks for permission, click Yes. Follow the on-screen installation wizard.
Sign in with your AVG account to activate your subscription automatically, or enter your activation code from your purchase confirmation email.
Once installed, open AVG and click Run Smart Scan to check your device for threats. The first scan may take 10 to 20 minutes.
Go to avg.com/download and select the Mac version. Download the .dmg installer file.
Open the .dmg file and drag AVG to your Applications folder. Open AVG from Applications and follow the setup prompts.
macOS will ask you to grant AVG Full Disk Access and other permissions in System Preferences. These are required for AVG to scan your Mac properly.

To completely remove AVG from your device, follow the steps for your operating system below.
Use the official AVG Uninstall Tool from the AVG support website for a complete removal. Standard Windows uninstall (Control Panel → Programs) may leave residual files. The Uninstall Tool removes all components cleanly.
Open Finder, go to Applications, and drag AVG to the Trash. Empty the Trash. For a complete removal including support files, use the AVG Uninstall Tool for Mac from the AVG support website.
Go to Settings → Apps → AVG AntiVirus and tap Uninstall. If AVG has Device Administrator rights enabled, revoke them first in Settings → Security → Device Administrators before uninstalling.
Press and hold the AVG app icon on your Home Screen until it jiggles, then tap the minus icon and confirm deletion. Or go to Settings → General → iPhone Storage, find AVG, and tap Delete App.
An activation code (also called a licence key) is a unique alphanumeric code that unlocks your paid AVG subscription.
Your activation code is in the purchase confirmation email sent to you at the time of purchase. It is also visible in My Orders inside your my.avg.com account. If you bought a boxed copy, the code is on a card inside the box.
Open your AVG application. Click Menu (the three lines icon), then select Enter activation code or Activate. Type or paste your code and click Activate. Your subscription will be applied immediately.
Check for typos — activation codes are case-sensitive. Make sure you are entering the code in the correct AVG product. If the code still fails, contact AVG support at support.avg.com with your order number.
If you have lost your activation code, log in to my.avg.com — your active subscriptions are listed there without needing the code. If your code has expired, you will need to purchase a new subscription.
Common problems consumers report with AVG scans and how to resolve them.
A slow scan is normal on the first run. Subsequent scans are faster because AVG caches results. Try scheduling scans during off-peak hours or excluding large trusted folders from the scan scope.
This can be caused by a corrupted file or a conflict with another security program. Try running a Boot-Time Scan in AVG settings, which runs before Windows loads and bypasses conflicts.
This is called a false positive. Add the file to AVG's exclusions list in Settings → General → Exceptions. You can also report the false positive to AVG through the support portal.
Check your internet connection. Open AVG and go to Menu → Settings → Update and click Check for Updates. If updates fail repeatedly, try temporarily disabling your firewall and retrying.
AVG's real-time shield runs continuously in the background. Check for a scheduled scan running in the background. You can adjust scan schedules in AVG Settings → Scan Scheduler.
Try restarting your computer. If AVG still does not open, use the AVG Uninstall Tool to remove it completely, then reinstall the latest version from avg.com/download.
